According to ABC News, Gold Coast strengthened its AFLW finals push with a 7.9 (51) to 1.4 (10) win over Essendon at Windy Hill, while Richmond defeated GWS 9.14 (68) to 10.1 (61) in Canberra.

The 41-point result was Gold Coast’s third consecutive victory and lifted the Suns, who are 4-2, into fifth place. They sit four points behind second-placed defending champions North Melbourne. Gold Coast’s defence held firm in blustery conditions, with Essendon not scoring until late in the second quarter.

Three Suns players aged under 21 kicked goals as the visitors controlled territory, building a 20-point half-time lead. Anne Hatchard and Charlie Rowbottom added goals before Emily Gough kicked Essendon’s only major late in the third quarter. Hatchard and Havana Harris finished with two goals each.

Niamh McLaughlin collected 33 disposals and 506 metres gained for Gold Coast, while Rowbottom had 36 disposals and one goal. Essendon remained winless at 0-6, despite Madison Prespakis recording a game-high 38 disposals.

Richmond, also 4-2, surged to a 55-18 half-time advantage over GWS at Manuka Oval after kicking five goals in 12 minutes during the second term. The Giants responded after half-time with six goals, including two from Georgia Garnett, and reduced the margin to eight points by three-quarter time.

The Tigers missed a series of late opportunities but their defence held off GWS to secure the seven-point win. Gabby Seymour kicked a career-best three goals and Olivia Wolmarans also kicked three for Richmond. Garnett ended with three goals for the Giants, while Alyce Parker had 27 disposals and Rebecca Beeson recorded 23 disposals and two goals.
