According to ABC News, Golden North has begun making ice cream at its new processing plant in Murray Bridge, South Australia. The company bought the former Beston Global Food Company site after administrators were unable to find a buyer when the business was liquidated in 2025.

Golden North managing director and co-owner Dimi Kyriazis said the Murray Bridge facility would place the business closer to South Australia’s central milk-producing region. The company plans to use the larger site to lift ice cream output and expand into products including cheese. Ice cream will be made using the same recipe and equipment transferred from the company’s Laura plant, but can be frozen more quickly at the new factory.

For its first year at Murray Bridge, Golden North will obtain milk from another company while it assesses its requirements before entering direct contracts with farmers. Mr Kyriazis said only about one-third of Golden North’s production remained in South Australia, with the rest sold interstate and overseas. He said the added capacity would allow the company to pursue opportunities it had previously been unable to meet.

The move ends Golden North’s 103-year presence in the Mid North town of Laura. While Laura employees were given priority to relocate, only three workers accepted the opportunity. The Murray Bridge factory is expected to require about 20 more staff than the Laura plant, bringing total employment to about 100. Former Beston employees, including head of operations Paul Connelly, are among those working at the site, where cheese production is also planned.
