An alleged right-wing attack on a Muslim community dinner in Ballarat has left children traumatized. A man who declared himself ‘far right’ allegedly threw abuse and punches at a dinner run by a Muslim community in Ballarat. According to ABC News, the incident has raised significant concerns among community leaders regarding the authorities’ response.

Federal Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has announced plans to discuss the incident with the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Community leaders expressed disappointment with the current handling of the situation, noting that the man was merely instructed to move on without facing immediate charges. Burke condemned the attack, stating that such behavior is contrary to Australian values.

The AFP has confirmed that Victoria Police will lead the investigation but will offer support if necessary. A victim’s statement detailed the man’s threats during the attack, which included violent threats against the attendees. Police reported that the alleged attacker was not arrested at the scene but was asked “to move on”.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has also responded, emphasizing the government’s commitment to confronting Islamophobia. She reached out to the Ballarat Muslim community to offer support and highlighted the dangers posed by the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric. Allan stated that every Victorian deserves to feel safe and that strong leadership is needed to address these issues.
