According to BBC News, Great Britain are guaranteed at least three medals at the European Boxing Championships in Bulgaria after Chantelle Reid, Damar Thomas and Abdul Burton reached the semi-finals.

Reid won 5-0 against Ireland’s Evelyn Igharo in the women’s light-middleweight division at the Asics Arena Sports Hall in Sofia. The 28-year-old Commonwealth Games silver medallist will face Serbia’s Milena Matovic in Wednesday’s last four.

Thomas also earned a 5-0 victory, beating Georgia’s Nikoloz Begadze in the men’s super-heavyweight contest. The 21-year-old is scheduled to box Azerbaijan’s Mahammad Abdullayev in the semi-finals.

Burton, 20, overcame home favourite and Olympic bronze medallist Javier Ibanez 3-2 to set up a semi-final against Turkey’s Semih Gumus. “Sometimes you have got to dig in and when things went against me I had to get stuck in and show who I was,” Burton said. “I am young, hungry and here to take over.”

Lauren Mackie, Amy Broadhurst, Callum Makin and Oladimeji Shittu are due to contest quarter-finals on Wednesday, while more than half of Britain’s 15-strong squad have been eliminated. On Tuesday, Ruby White lost 3-2 to Turkey’s Olympic silver medallist Hatice Akbas, Emily Asquith was beaten 5-0 by Ireland’s Lisa O’Rourke, and Isaac Okoh lost 3-0 to Germany’s Kevin Lebowski.
