Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his desire for captain Bernardo Silva to complete his career at the club. However, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with the player. Silva’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he has been linked with potential moves to La Liga leaders Barcelona, Serie A side Juventus, and various teams in Major League Soccer.

Guardiola’s comments follow remarks from assistant coach Pep Lijnders, who suggested that Silva’s nine-year tenure at Manchester City might conclude this summer. Lijnders, after the team’s recent FA Cup victory over Liverpool, stated, “every good story comes to an end,” hinting at Silva’s possible departure.

Despite the speculation, Guardiola remains hopeful about Silva’s future with the club, noting that the player has yet to communicate his decision. “I’m so grumpy with Bernardo because a month ago I said, ‘if you take a decision I have to be the first to [know]’ and he didn’t say anything to me yet,” Guardiola shared.

Silva, who joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017, has made 450 appearances for the club. He was made club captain last summer following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne. Guardiola praised Silva’s competitive spirit and crucial contributions during high-pressure moments, emphasizing his value to the team.

The impending decision regarding Silva’s future will undoubtedly impact Manchester City, as Lijnders noted that replacing a player of Silva’s caliber is a challenging task. “You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don’t exist,” Lijnders commented, highlighting the uniqueness of Silva’s contributions.

According to BBC News, the coming weeks will be critical as Silva weighs his options and the club prepares for potential changes in the squad.
