Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty and Member for Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda, welcome the $1.9 billion Federal Government investment boost in Western Sydney, recognising the region as the fastest growing in Australia.
This investment aims to improve quality of life for Western Sydney families and expand access to new jobs that come out of development opportunities in the upcoming Western Sydney Airport Precinct.
Key project funding detail includes:
- A $400 million federal investment to deliver priority sections of Elizabeth Drive upgrade. This builds on the NSW Government’s $200 million commitment for Elizabeth Drive safety and enabling works.
- A $100 million federal investment to deliver new infrastructure to support bus services to the WSI airport.
- The new $500 million federal investment in Mamre Road Stage 2 will add to the $253.6 million already allocated by the NSW Government for Stage 1 of the project.
- A further $115 million federal government commitment for Mulgoa Road Stage 2 will allow the NSW Government to move ahead with upgrades to the pinch point.
- The new $500 million federal investment for Richmond Road, Garfield Road and Memorial Avenue will support the NSW Government’s existing $385 million commitment.
- A $20 million federal investment to support the delivery of the final business case for Stage 1 of the Western Sydney Freight Line.
Also included in this investment boost is the continual funding of vital projects such as Appin Road, Spring Farm Parkway and bus infrastructure for the future Western Sydney Airport.
This funding underlines the importance of supporting growth in Western Sydney following 12 years of neglect by successive State and Federal Liberal/National Governments which led to an absence of planning and funding.
The Minns Labor Government, alongside the Federal Labor Government, have outlined their commitment to deliver road infrastructure upgrades to ensure residents in South Western Sydney can keep up with population growth and development.
Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty said:
“This is a big win for residents in South Western Sydney.
“These upgrades will go far in cutting congestion, opening up transport links to the Airport, and giving industry the confidence to co-invest in upcoming developments in the Airport precinct.
“Road infrastructure in our part of the world was left underfunded and in disrepair following 12 years of neglect, so it’s good to see state and federal governments working hand in hand to fix it.”
Member for Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda said:
“This funding is a win that will bust gridlock on our roads and get Western Sydney moving.
“For too long, Governments at all levels have been slow to the draw on delivering vital transport connections for our growing suburbs. Today’s news shows that this is changing.
“The forthcoming opening of the new airport presents a massive prospect for Western Sydneysiders. This announcement will ensure that our communities can unlock those opportunities.”
