Arabic version: حريق سيارة في هامبتون بارك يرفع عدد المركبات المتضررة إلى 14
According to ABC News, police are investigating another car fire in Melbourne after a week of arson attacks across the city. A vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on Horizon Boulevard in Hampton Park was engulfed in flames just after 4am.
The Hampton Park vehicle is the 14th destroyed by fire in the past five days. Police said no-one was injured in the incident.
Arson Squad detectives will examine the scene as investigations continue into a series of firebombings outside homes in Taylors Hill, Keilor, Balwyn North, Maidstone, Reservoir and Oakleigh East.
Acting Commander Troy Papworth said the previous day that police believed the rise in arson attacks was linked to organised crime and appeared to be an intimidation tactic. He said the practice posed a major danger to victims and culprits. Several fires spread to homes during the week, and a 13-year-old boy was clinging to life with burns to 90 per cent of his body after the Taylors Hill blaze.
