According to The Guardian, Australia were 52-2 after 15 overs on the opening day of the first men’s Test against Bangladesh in Darwin, after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Hasan Mahmud removed both opening batters in an encouraging early spell for Bangladesh.

Jake Weatherald was the first to fall, caught by Litton Das off Hasan Mahmud for 23 as Australia slipped from 45-0 to 45-1. Weatherald had struck several boundaries but was beaten repeatedly outside off stump before edging behind.

Travis Head then departed for 22 with Australia on 52. He chopped a back-of-a-length delivery from Hasan Mahmud onto his leg stump, leaving Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith together at the crease on nought.

Bangladesh’s new-ball bowlers found movement and bounce on a Darwin surface expected to offer some early assistance. Ebadot Hossain produced a testing over against Head, while Bangladesh also reviewed an lbw appeal against the left-hander that was ruled not out because the ball was missing off stump.

Australia’s XI includes Head, Weatherald, Labuschagne, Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Beau Webster, captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood. Bangladesh are led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, with Litton Das keeping wicket and Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain among the pace options.
