According to ABC News, a 66-year-old New South Wales woman has been found uninjured after spending the night missing in Mount Remarkable National Park in South Australia.

Police said the woman was found at 10am on Wednesday and did not require medical treatment. She had failed to return from a hike on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a late-night search involving PolAir and local crews.

A renewed search began on Wednesday morning with police patrols, Mounted Operations and SES volunteers. Crews searched on foot, by drone and using motorbikes and utility terrain vehicles.

Police said the experienced hiker had been walking with a friend, who returned to town at about 4pm, leaving the woman to climb the summit alone. Superintendent Paul Isherwood described the terrain as very steep and fairly challenging.

SES North duty officer Ben Birbeck said volunteers faced wet conditions after a long wet period in the region. The search area, which includes part of the Heyson Trail, is in South Australia’s Mid North, about 250 to 290 kilometres north of Adelaide.
