The book signing ceremony for “Hermit Father Antonios Chaina: The Essence of His Life: The Imitation of the Christ” by George Hayek, held on Saturday, August 3, at the Mar Nohra Church in Bkerkasha, was a resounding success. The event celebrated the launch of this blessed book, which honours the life and virtues of Hermit Father Antonios Chaina. The number of attendees exceeded 400 people, showcasing the deep admiration and respect the community holds for Father Chaina.
The ceremony saw a remarkable turnout, including several distinguished guests: Mr. George Al-Batti, Mayor of Bkerkasha; Father Tony Chaina and Father Tony Souma; Mr. Michel Younes, former member of the Australian Parliament and former Mayor of Parramatta; Mr. Tony Issa, advisory for the Association of the Bkerkasha committee in Australia; the Australian Federation of North Lebanon and its main representative, Mr. George Hanna, representing Mr. George Abdallah; and Mr. George Boutros, representing the family of Father Antonios Chaina. The event was gracefully presented by journalist Janine Al-Batti. The community of Bkerkasha, along with attendees from various regions of Lebanon, filled the atmosphere with enthusiasm and joy, honouring the memory and legacy of Hermit Father Antonios Chaina.
The ceremony also highlighted the strong presence of Lebanese expatriates, especially from Australia, many of whom were members of the Habis’ family and relatives. This international representation underscored the widespread impact and reverence for Father Chaina’s life and work.
The celebration was meticulously organised by the Bkerkasha Akhaweye and Fersen, led by George Al-Batti, under the supervision of Mr. Tony Arida, Mr. Romanos Elchar, and Mrs. Antoinette Al-Batti. Their efforts ensured a memorable and heartfelt event that paid tribute to Father Chaina’s enduring influence.
Hermit Father Antonios Chaina, known for his devout spirituality and virtuous life, left a lasting impression on the faithful who knew him in the hermitage of Saint Boula in the Qozhaya Valley. Even 15 years after his passing, his legacy continues to inspire and impact lives.
The event concluded with a collective prayer, expressing gratitude to the Lord Jesus and a heartfelt wish to see Hermit Chaina canonised as a Saint in the Church. Author George Hayek then signed copies of his book for the attendees, and a celebratory cake was cut with the priests and organisers, followed by a toast to mark the occasion.
The successful launch of “Hermit Father Antonios Chaina: The Essence of His Life: The Imitation of the Christ” stands as a testament to the profound respect and admiration for Father Chaina’s life and teachings, ensuring his memory continues to inspire future generations.
