According to BBC News, Huddersfield Giants beat Leigh Leopards 30-18 to keep the visitors waiting to secure a Super League play-off place. The Giants scored five tries for their seventh victory of the season and climbed to 12th, above York, before their trip to Toulouse.

Leigh struck first after nine minutes when Owen Trout collected an up-and-under and reached out to score. Huddersfield answered with 14 points in 10 minutes before half-time: Harry Rushton barged over, George Flanagan kicked a penalty, and Taane Milne ran in after Tui Lolohea’s high kick was spilled by Innes Senior.

Niall Evalds extended Huddersfield’s lead early in the second half after Zac Woolford broke from dummy half. Leigh responded when Josh Charnley was released down the right wing and Umyla Hanley scored on his 100th Super League appearance.

Cole Geyer then touched down after Huddersfield claimed a short goal-line drop-out and Woolford grubbered into the in-goal area. Robbie Mulhern’s try, following Leigh’s reclaimed restart, kept the visitors in contention with 11 minutes remaining. But Geyer found a gap to score his second try with six minutes left and seal the win.

Leigh had arrived with eight wins from their previous nine games, and a victory would have secured a top-six finish. They remain fifth with two games left, while St Helens, in seventh, lost at home to Leeds. Leigh head coach Adrian Lam said Huddersfield were “very physical and on point” and described his side’s display as their worst over the past three or four months.
