According to BBC News, a humanoid robot has run faster than Usain Bolt’s human 100m world record at the World Humanoid Robot Games in China.

The robot, developed by the Beijing Innovation Centre of Humanoid Robotics, completed the distance in 9.39 seconds. Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medallist, set the human world record in 2009 with a time of 9.58 seconds.

The robot beat two other competitors, including one made by Chinese smartphone maker Honor. The manufacturer says its robot recorded 9.32 seconds in a test run.

The World Humanoid Robot Games began on Saturday. Its programme includes boxing and football, as well as household tasks such as folding laundry.
