According to BBC News, world number two Luke Humphries reached the World Grand Prix semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Niels Zonneveld. Humphries will face fellow Englishman James Wade after Wade eliminated third seed Gian van Veen by the same score.
Humphries, who won the tournament in 2023 and has eight PDC major singles titles, averaged 85.91 and hit four 180s against Dutchman Zonneveld. His checkout success was 33.33%, and he has not dropped a set in this year’s event after also whitewashing Dave Chisnall and Jermaine Wattimena in earlier rounds.
“The way I’m practising, I feel really good, it’s just not been coming out this week. Against James, I know I need it to come out, it’ll be a tough task,” Humphries said. He added that making four World Grand Prix finals in succession “would be super special”.
In the other semi-final, Nathan Aspinall will play Gerwyn Price. Aspinall secured his last-four place with a 3-0 win over Ryan Joyce at Leicester’s Mattioli Arena, while Price recovered to beat compatriot Jonny Clayton 3-2. Clayton had taken a two-set lead and had match darts in the tie. The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, 3 October, with the final set for Sunday, 4 October.
