According to BBC News, world number two Luke Humphries beat James Wade 5-3 to reach the World Grand Prix final in Leicester. The Englishman will play Welshman Gerwyn Price on Sunday evening after Price won the other semi-final against Nathan Aspinall.
Humphries averaged 96.92 and hit 10 maximums while reaching the final for the fourth successive time. The 31-year-old, who has won eight PDC major singles titles, won the opening set before Wade levelled with a 141 checkout. The players then shared the next two sets, but Humphries moved 4-2 ahead and ultimately sealed the match on double top in the eighth set.
Humphries won the World Grand Prix in 2023 but lost the past two finals. He said reaching four Grand Prix finals in a row was “super special” and history for him, while adding that it would not mean anything unless he lifted the trophy. He said Price was playing well and that another performance at the same level could produce “a cracking game”.
Price secured his place in the final with a 5-2 victory over Aspinall. He built a three-set lead while Aspinall was unable to repeat the form from his quarter-final win over Ryan Joyce, when he averaged 105.15. Aspinall responded with a 132 checkout, the highest of the match, and cut the deficit to 3-2 before Price won the final two sets without reply.
After his win, Price said he was frustrated by Aspinall’s interactions with a partisan crowd at the Mattioli Arena. Price said he was glad to come through the match and described Aspinall as a great friend, while saying that he should “take it on the chin sometimes when you’re losing.”
