Arabic version: اتهام رجل من هوونفيل بقتل والدته
According to ABC News, a 55-year-old southern Tasmanian man has been charged with murdering his 85-year-old mother at their Huonville home early on Sunday.
Tasmania Police Detective Inspector David Gill said police and paramedics were called to a house on Stride Street at about 4.30am after a Triple Zero (000) call was made from the address. The woman was found dead in her bed.
Inspector Gill said that after officers attended and spoke with a male occupant, the death was deemed suspicious and a crime scene was declared. A 55-year-old man was taken into custody and conveyed to Hobart Police Station.
The man was later interviewed and charged with one count of murder. He was detained in custody and was expected to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.
Inspector Gill said the coroner would determine the cause of death with help from a pathologist, while police would allege the woman was smothered by her son. The woman had lived at the address with her two sons for many years. Her other son was at the house at the time and was not believed to be involved in the alleged murder.
