His Grace Bishop Anba Youssef, Bishop of Texas, Florida and the Southern United States and Abbot of the Monastery of St. Mary and St. Anba Moussa, officially inaugurated the Church of Saint Joseph the Carpenter on the evening of Saturday, August 1, in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. The opening was attended by several priests, deacons, and members of the congregation in Nashville as part of the church’s celebrations for the feast commemorating the repose of Saint Joseph the Carpenter, which falls on Sunday, August 2.After the inauguration, His Grace presided over the incense prayer of Vespers and the Midnight Praises, during which the relics of the saints were incensed. He then performed the rite of consecrating the eastern iconography of the church’s Pantocrator — titled “The Father’s Embrace” — and blessed new altar vessels for the church. The spiritual celebration concluded with the Divine Liturgy, during which he administered the sacrament of Holy Baptism to several children and conducted the ordination and elevation of several of the church’s deacons to higher ranks, to the joy of the congregation and clergy. It is noted that His Grace celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in the church on Thursday, December 19, 2024 — the day after the completion of the purchase and transfer of ownership of the building — and entrusted the church’s ministry to the monk Fr. Philoxenus Ava Moussa.
