On the morning of Monday, 14 September, His Grace Bishop Anba Rouis, the Papal Vicar of the Diocese of Melbourne and its dependencies in Australia, officially opened the St. Demiana Educational Centre. The centre, intended for kindergarten and grades one and two, is located at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox College in the city of Melbourne. The opening ceremony was attended by Fr. Daniel Gabriel, General Vicar of the Diocese; Fr. Tadros Sharubim, the college’s founder and principal; Mrs. Catherine Matthews, Member of Parliament; Mr. Jimmy Marcus, Chair of the College Board; as well as faculty members and some student families.The college held a celebration for the occasion during which Fr. Tadros welcomed the guests—especially His Grace Anba Rouis—and spoke about the school’s history and its significance to the Coptic community. Fr. Tadros then took Anba Rouis and the other guests on a tour of the college’s facilities. The new centre is an important addition to St. Mary Coptic Orthodox College, the first Coptic Orthodox school established outside Egypt during the papacy of the late His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, founded by Fr. Tadros Sharubim in 1991. This modern building combines contemporary education with the Coptic Orthodox faith, aiming to ensure that faith remains an integral part of the daily learning environment for students.
