His Grace Bishop Serapion, the Bishop of Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii, presided over the celebration of the consecration of the Church of the Great Martyr St. Mina the Wonderworker and St. Pope Cyril VI in Torrance, southwest of Los Angeles, on Saturday, March 7. The event was attended by esteemed bishops, including Bishop Abraham and Bishop Cyril, along with a number of priests from the Coptic Church in Los Angeles. This celebration was part of the church’s festivities honoring the feast of St. Pope Cyril VI, the patron saint of the church, whose commemoration falls on Monday, March 9.
The celebration began with the evening prayer and the consecration rites of the church, culminating in the Divine Liturgy held on Sunday morning. The atmosphere was filled with joy among the priests, servants, deacons, and congregation.
It is worth mentioning that the first liturgy in this church was held seven years ago on the feast of St. Pope Cyril VI in 2019, which was led by the late Father Luka Sidaros, who recounted the story behind the church’s construction and the miracle of the patron saint’s appearance.
