According to Cnbc, Intel announced a $15 billion common stock offering on Monday to support skyrocketing customer demand for artificial intelligence compute. The chipmaker said the funding would support corporate needs, including capital expenditures and working capital.

Intel identified physical AI, purpose-built silicon and advanced packaging as major growth opportunities. Shares fell 4% before the bell following the announcement. The offering also includes a 30-day option allowing underwriters to buy an additional $2.25 billion in common stock.

Technology giants have increased capital spending to build AI infrastructure and add compute capacity. Goldman Sachs estimates spending is on track to reach $765 billion this year and $1.2 trillion in 2027. Amazon gave the highest guidance among the group during the latest reporting period, citing a memory crunch.

Last month, Intel reported its fastest revenue growth in nearly 15 years and raised capital-expenditure guidance to $20 billion, citing strong customer demand. Finance chief David Zinsner said most spending would support factory tooling and that the company was preparing for a “meaningful increase” in 2027. Intel shares have surged 175% in 2026 and quintupled over the past year, helped by the AI infrastructure buildout and the U.S. government’s 10% equity stake intended to bolster domestic chip manufacturing.
