Dr. Rania Marwan Sabano, an international arbitrator, expert, and professor of international law, as well as the founder and leader of the Arab and Syrian Women’s Leadership in Britain, made a notable contribution at an international arbitration conference focused on economic issues in international arbitration. The conference, titled “Arbitration in Investment Contracts (International Construction, Oil, and Gas Contracts),” took place at Cairo University. It was organized by the university’s arbitration center under the patronage of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and chaired by Professor Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, the university president. The event occurred on February 14 and 15, 2026, in the Grand Celebration Hall, attracting a distinguished group of judges, legal scholars, arbitration experts, and professionals from the construction and energy sectors.
Dr. Rania’s participation in the conference came in response to an official invitation from the university’s arbitration center. Her presence added significant academic and professional value, reflecting her specialized expertise in international arbitration and investment dispute resolution, particularly concerning international contracts.
In statements to the press during her participation at the Cairo conference on arbitration issues in the construction, oil, and gas sectors, Dr. Rania expressed pride in the presence of arbitration centers and the extensive Arab participation from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain. She noted that this involvement clearly signifies the encouragement of joint Arab work, promotes Arab integration, facilitates the exchange of expertise, and enhances the region’s status as an important hub for investment dispute resolution.
Dr. Sabano further highlighted that one of the main objectives of the conference was to discuss the latest legal and practical trends in arbitration related to investment contracts, especially those pertaining to international construction, oil, and gas contracts. This included examining the challenges faced by contracting parties and exploring ways to develop dispute resolution mechanisms in line with legislative and economic developments at both regional and international levels.
The first session tackled topics related to “Arbitration in International Construction Contracts… Contract Drafting and Arbitration Terms,” emphasizing the issues linked to drafting international contracts and the importance of precision in defining arbitration terms. It also addressed the complex technical disputes that require a blend of legal expertise and specialized engineering insight, in addition to discussing whether international construction contracts are considered protected investment contracts under international investment treaties.
Moreover, Dr. Sabano, in her statements at the conference, emphasized that the event aligns with Cairo University’s commitment to supporting scientific research and professional development in the field of arbitration. It also aims to open channels of dialogue between academics and practitioners, contributing to reinforcing Egypt’s status as a regional center for investment dispute resolution and cementing confidence in the national investment environment.
