An investigation into alleged “family voting” at the Gorton and Denton by-election has found no evidence of misconduct. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that their inquiry found no signs of illegal voting practices or voter coercion.

The allegations were initially raised by Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, who reported concerns to both GMP and the Electoral Commission after the poll last month. Family voting refers to situations where a family member may influence another’s vote, such as accompanying them into the polling booth.

GMP stated that there was “no evidence to suggest any intent to influence or refrain a person from voting as stated in the Ballot Secrecy Act 2023”. The investigation’s findings have cleared the election of any misconduct claims.
