Arabic version: إيران تدعي استهداف سفينة حربية أمريكية في مضيق هرمز
Iranian media say a United States warship trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz has been hit with two missiles after ignoring warnings. The incident, which occurred near the Iranian port of Jask, prompted the unnamed warship to withdraw from the area and “flee,” according to the Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The US military, however, denied that one of its vessels had been struck. This report followed a warning from Major General Ali Abdollahi, head of Iran’s joint military command, who stated that US forces would face attacks if they entered the strategic waterway. His remarks came in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US would “guide” vessels stranded by the US-Israeli war on Iran through the key waterway.
As tensions escalate, Iranian authorities are mobilizing supporters for what they anticipate could be a prolonged conflict. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is reviewing proposals from the US, conveyed through Pakistan, but called for a more “realistic” approach from Trump. According to Al Jazeera, the Iranian government is focused solely on achieving a complete end to the war.
In light of the ongoing hostilities, Iranian officials are reportedly working to restore missile and drone capabilities while digging up bombed entrances to underground munitions bases. The country has been under a near-total internet shutdown affecting more than 90 million Iranians for security reasons, which is expected to remain until the end of the war.
Simultaneously, armed, state-backed motorcades continue to roam the streets of Tehran and other cities at night, and public demonstrations are being organized to maintain domestic support for the war narrative. The campaign, titled “Jan Fadaa,” encourages citizens to volunteer for the cause, claiming to have more than 31 million active members, although this figure has faced skepticism from critics who argue that actual registration numbers are significantly lower. Recent developments indicate that the campaign is transitioning from a symbolic status to actively engaging participants in state-designated activities.
