Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the US of opting for a “reckless military adventure” every time a “diplomatic solution is on the table.” In a post on X, Araghchi asserted that Iranians would “never bow to pressure” from the US, following mutual accusations of attacks occurring in the Strait of Hormuz. He questioned whether the US actions were a crude pressure tactic or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire.
Despite recent clashes, US President Donald Trump claimed that a ceasefire remains intact, which is meant to enable talks to end the war that the US and Israel launched in February. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that Iran was expected to respond to US proposals on Friday, expressing hope for a serious offer from Tehran.
The US has intensified its military presence in the region, conducting operations to help free some 2,000 vessels stranded since February. Additionally, the US is maintaining a naval blockade of Iranian ports to exert pressure on Tehran to agree to US terms. On Friday, US Central Command reported disabling two Iranian-flagged unladen oil tankers attempting to pull into an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman “in violation of the ongoing US blockade,” stating that precision munitions were used to prevent their entry into Iran.
In parallel, the US has signaled its readiness to host a new round of Israel-Lebanon talks next week, aiming to address ongoing clashes involving Hezbollah. The US State Department described the upcoming discussions as “intensive” and focused on achieving lasting security for Israel and reconstruction for Lebanon.
Tensions in the region escalated further after the US accused Iran of launching missiles, drones, and small boats against its warships in what it called an “unprovoked attack,” while Iran claimed the US targeted its vessels. Reports indicated that a cargo ship near Minab caught fire following these exchanges, resulting in injuries among sailors. Trump stated on Truth Social that the US had inflicted significant damage on Iranian forces, vowing a stronger response if necessary.
