Arabic version: إيران تطلق صواريخ بينما تضرب الولايات المتحدة جزيرة قشم في صراع الخليج
Iran fired missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain in the early hours of Wednesday, escalating tensions in the Gulf as the United States launched strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island. This latest conflict marks nearly 100 days since hostilities began between Tehran and Washington, according to Al Jazeera.
Kuwait’s state news agency KUNA reported that Iranian missiles and drones struck the country’s international airport, resulting in injuries and damage to airport facilities. However, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that two missiles aimed at Kuwait fell short or broke apart during flight, while several ballistic missiles failed to reach their targets.
In Bahrain, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly targeted an airbase and the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet, prompting sirens to alert residents. CENTCOM confirmed that it intercepted the projectiles aimed at Bahrain, with no reported harm to U.S. personnel or assets.
Before the missile attacks, U.S. forces struck a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island, believed to house Iranian missiles. Following this, Iran retaliated by firing at Kuwait and Bahrain. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the U.S. strikes, blaming both Kuwait and Bahrain for supporting U.S. military operations against Iran.
Diplomatic efforts appear stalled as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that sanctions relief would only come if Iran ceased its nuclear activities. Meanwhile, Iran’s chief negotiator hinted at a potential shift toward confrontation if Israeli attacks on Lebanon persist. The situation remains volatile, with both sides exchanging attacks in recent weeks, raising fears of an escalation into full-scale conflict.
