The mood among anti-regime Iranians has shifted dramatically following two weeks of intense US and Israeli airstrikes, which have caused extensive destruction across the country. Once hopeful for assistance from the United States, many now express dismay at the loss of lives and cultural heritage. According to The Guardian, the recent military actions have led to a growing sentiment that the US and Israel are just as culpable as the Iranian regime they aim to dismantle.

Students and protesters in Tehran have shared their anguish, with one stating, “You are all worse than each other,” reflecting a sense of betrayal and hopelessness. The airstrikes have not only targeted military infrastructure but have also devastated residential areas, shops, and cultural sites, leading to a toxic environment for civilians.

The destruction of significant heritage sites like Tehran’s Golestan Palace has further fueled anger among the populace. Many are questioning the strategy behind the strikes, as they feel that ordinary Iranians are bearing the brunt of the military actions intended to weaken the regime. One protester lamented, “How will they rebuild … a priceless part of history?” expressing concerns over the long-term impacts on both culture and society.

Amidst the chaos, some Iranians still hold out hope for change, fearing that a premature halt to the conflict could allow the regime to regain strength. However, the common sentiment among many now is that the US and Israel’s involvement has complicated their struggle for freedom, leading them to feel abandoned in their fight against oppression.
