Arabic version: عبور ناقلات النفط الإيرانية من الحصار الأمريكي قبل مفاوضات السلام
Several Iranian tankers have crossed the United States blockade line in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a tracking website, two days before Washington and Tehran are to launch more talks after reaching a framework agreement to end their war. According to Al Jazeera, this movement of tankers signifies Iran’s first crude oil exports in two months.
The TankerTrackers website, which specializes in monitoring oil shipments, reported that two National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) vessels, the Diona and Hero 2, carrying a combined total of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian oil, exited the blockade line on Tuesday. Additionally, another tanker named Stream was noted to be sailing towards Iranian ports on Wednesday.
In another update, the maritime tracking service indicated that a third NITC tanker, the Sonia I, exited the blockade line at 01:11 GMT on Wednesday, carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil. This movement comes as the international community anticipates the upcoming negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict that escalated following US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
The peace talks are set to begin on Friday at Switzerland’s Burgenstock mountain resort, following a framework agreement that could lead to a comprehensive settlement. Reports suggest that the US will permit Iran to immediately begin selling oil and fuel after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which is expected to last for 60 days. This agreement may also facilitate a waiver of sanctions on oil sales, covering essential services like banking, transportation, and insurance.
