Arabic version: الإيرانيون يواجهون اليأس والخوف بعد شهر من الحرب المستمرة
Iranians are grappling with increasing desperation and anxiety as the war continues for a month. According to BBC News, many citizens report a profound impact on their daily lives, with some experiencing sleepless nights and overwhelming fear for the future.
One young woman from Tehran, known only as Setareh, described the chaos that ensued after a bombing near her workplace. The sudden noise and vibrations prompted panic among her colleagues, leading to an abrupt end to their workday. The war has not only disrupted their lives but has also led to widespread job losses, with Setareh now struggling financially as food prices have risen by 60% in the previous year and economic hardships continue.
Setareh expressed concern about the future, stating that many Iranians are running out of resources to survive. With the economy already in crisis before the war, the situation has only deteriorated, leaving millions without the means to afford basic necessities. She fears that a lack of support for the unemployed could lead to further unrest and protests against the regime.
Healthcare workers are also feeling the strain of the ongoing conflict. A nurse outside Tehran highlighted the looming shortages of medicine and the potential impact on hospitals if the war escalates. She recounted harrowing experiences of treating victims of airstrikes, including a pregnant woman who lost her life due to the violence.
The Iranian government’s response to dissent remains harsh, with security forces patrolling the streets and a history of brutal crackdowns on protests. Former political prisoner Behnam reflected on the risks of speaking out, recalling past violence against protesters. He remains hopeful for a future free from oppression, despite the current climate of fear and uncertainty.
