Arabic version: غارة جوية إسرائيلية تودي بحياة مصور الجزيرة
Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah was killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Saturday, according to ABC News. His death comes just two months after his brother, Mohammed Wishah, also a correspondent for the network, was killed by Israeli forces.
The Qatar-based news network condemned the “deliberate killing,” stating that Ahmed Wishah was the 12th Al Jazeera martyr in Gaza since October 2023. The network urged the international community to take urgent measures against Israeli officials involved in these incidents.
Gaza health officials reported that Israeli strikes on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, including two children. The air strike that killed Wishah targeted a house in the Bureij camp in the central Gaza Strip.
An Israeli military spokesman referred to Wishah as a “Hamas terrorist,” although no evidence was provided to support this claim. The Israeli army has repeatedly stated that it does not deliberately target journalists, despite having acknowledged the killing of individuals it claims are militants posing as media professionals.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with at least 1,012 Palestinians reported killed since a ceasefire took effect on October 10 of the previous year. Restrictions on media access in the region complicate independent verification of casualty figures.
