Arabic version: الهجوم الإسرائيلي يودي بحياة طبيب فلسطيني في غزة
A Palestinian doctor was killed and three others injured in an Israeli attack in central Gaza on Saturday. The incident occurred during the fourth day of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Dr. Jamal Abu Aoun, who served as the head of anaesthesia at Al-Yafa Medical Hospital, was fatally struck near the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. According to Al Jazeera, the casualties were the result of an Israeli drone strike targeting a group of civilians near the hospital.
Earlier on the same day, Israeli artillery shelling targeted areas east and south of Khan Younis city, with further strikes reported in the al-Bureij refugee camp. Since the ceasefire began in October, at least 922 Palestinians have been reported killed and 2,786 injured due to Israeli attacks.
The ongoing violence follows a broader context of conflict that began in October 2023, which has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties. Reports indicate that at least 72,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 172,000 injured since the onset of the conflict, with testimonies from Israeli soldiers revealing a troubling atmosphere of dehumanization and permissive engagement rules.
In addition to the violence in Gaza, Israeli settlers have been attacking Palestinian homes and properties in the occupied West Bank. Reports from the town of Beita indicate that settlers threw stones at houses and vandalized vehicles. In the southern West Bank, damage to Palestinian farmland was reported, with a significant number of attacks occurring since the start of the conflict. According to Palestinian figures, over 1,168 Palestinians have been killed and 12,666 injured in the West Bank since October 2023.
