According to Al Jazeera, Israeli forces carried out artillery attacks and ground raids in southern Syria while conducting air strikes and demolitions across southern Lebanon, despite diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.

Witnesses said Israeli forces shelled a hilltop near Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside late on Wednesday. Syria’s Alikhbariah TV separately reported that soldiers raided and searched a house in Taranja, in the Quneitra countryside. The shelling struck the strategic Bat al-Warda hill near Beit Jinn, where repeated Israeli attacks have been reported in recent months.

The incidents followed talks in Jordan between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Israeli intelligence officials, mediated by the United States. Damascus described the meeting as an effort to end Israeli attacks, arrests and targeting operations inside Syria. Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 and has deployed troops into a United Nations-patrolled buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights.

In Lebanon, the National News Agency reported Israeli air attacks on al-Mansouri in the Tyre district and Sarbine in the Bint Jbeil district. Artillery fire hit Wadi Zibqin, while air strikes hit Beit Lif and Yater. Israeli forces also continued demolitions in southern Lebanon, including Hula, while drones were observed flying at low altitude over Beirut and its southern suburbs.

The attacks came despite a US-brokered framework agreement following an escalation in March. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health says the Israeli campaign has killed 4,350 people and wounded 12,310 since March 2. President Joseph Aoun said the negotiating track remained the option that would spare Lebanon “the horrors of war”, despite delays and obstacles.
