Arabic version: زعيم المعارضة الإسرائيلية يؤيد التوسع الإقليمي الواسع
Israel’s opposition leader, Yair Lapid, expressed his support for broad territorial expansion during a recent news conference. He stated that his views on Israeli expansion extend as far as Iraq, aligning with Zionist and biblical foundations. According to Al Jazeera, Lapid emphasized the importance of creating a strong land and safe haven for future generations of Jews.
Lapid articulated that his vision for Israel is rooted in biblical mandates, asserting that the borders of the land of Israel are clearly defined in scripture. He remarked, “Zionism is based on the Bible. Our mandate over the land of Israel is biblical, [and] the biblical borders of the land of Israel are clear… Therefore, the borders are the borders of the Bible.”
Despite his strong support for expansion, Lapid acknowledged that there are Israeli security and policy considerations that may hinder such ambitions, although he did not provide further details on these factors. His comments follow controversial statements made by Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, who suggested that it would be acceptable for Israel to expand its control across the Middle East.
Huckabee’s remarks have sparked significant regional backlash, leading to calls for clarification from the US government. The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned Huckabee’s comments as “extremist rhetoric” and labeled them unacceptable. In response to the outcry, a spokesperson from the US Embassy stated that Huckabee’s comments were taken out of context and confirmed that there is no shift in US policy regarding Israel.
