Arabic version: الضربات الإسرائيلية في لبنان تترك العشرات قتلى رغم وقف إطلاق النار
At least 12 people have been killed, including a child, in southern Lebanon, as Israel continues its strikes despite a ceasefire. The attacks occurred on May 1, 2026, with Israeli forces reportedly killing at least eight individuals in Habboush, located in the Nabatieh district, and wounding at least eight others, including another child and a woman.
According to Al Jazeera, the Lebanese Civilian Defence searched through the rubble of a “massive set of air strikes that destroyed a residential neighbourhood”. Eyewitness reports indicate that the destruction was extensive, with buildings completely flattened.
In addition to the casualties in Habboush, reports indicate that another four people were killed in other attacks near Tyre and Nabatieh. Israeli forces also demolished houses, a convent, and a school during the strikes. The military had issued a forced evacuation order to residents in Habboush prior to the attacks, warning them to move at least 1,000 metres away.
The ongoing conflict has seen a significant rise in casualties, with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reporting that since hostilities began on March 2, 2,618 people have been killed and 8,094 wounded. This surge in violence has occurred despite a US-brokered ceasefire announced on April 17, which was extended to May 17. The situation remains tense as Hezbollah continues to retaliate against Israeli forces, further complicating the conflict.
