Arabic version: جاجز كريشنان يتعهد بالدفاع عن دعوى قضائية أميركية بشأن قرض
According to ABC News, Western Australian Labor MP Jags Krishnan says he will “vigorously” defend a United States lawsuit concerning an alleged unpaid loan of $US655,000 ($930,500), plus interest.
Kenyan Consulting LLC has filed proceedings in the New Jersey District Court against Dr Krishnan, his wife Yaamini Jagadish and three companies, alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment. Dr Krishnan has represented the southern suburbs electorate of Riverton since 2021.
The court document alleges Dr Krishnan sought short-term financial support in May 2024, initially receiving $US250,000 paid to Codd Technologies. Ms Jagadish is the company’s sole director. It further alleges a subsequent $US405,000 loan was made after a meeting in the United States.
Kenyan Consulting says the total sum was to be repaid within a year. Dr Krishnan’s lawyer, Perth barrister Martin Bennett, disputes that account, saying the agreement provided for repayment over nine years. Mr Bennett represents both Dr Krishnan and Ms Jagadish, who will fully defend the case.
Dr Krishnan said he would also sue a representative of Kenyan Consulting and another person for defamation. Asked about business dealings while serving as an MP, he said he was not actively engaged in business and was assisting his wife. Premier Roger Cook said he learned the specifics of the dispute in the past week and would not comment on the court action.
