According to ABC News, about 100 people gathered in Millmerran, west of Brisbane, to farewell Toowoomba mother Jana Jane Armstrong, whose body was found in bushland near Toowoomba last month. The father of her child has been charged with her murder.

Family members remembered the 30-year-old as someone who cared fiercely for others, loved deeply and loved being a mother. Her sister, Faith Isaacs, said Armstrong was her best friend and that they had become even closer after their parents died. “I promise your name will continue to be spoken,” Ms Isaacs said.

Mourners wore green, Armstrong’s favourite colour, while an Auslan interpreter translated the service. Armstrong’s late father was deaf and all four children in the family learned sign language from a young age. Armstrong worked as a disability carer.

Her younger brother, Dean Armstrong, read a poem titled Dear Sister in Heaven, and a photographic tribute was played to a song he wrote, Forever in our Hearts. The family also recalled her love of sport and her habit of wearing Havaianas thongs regardless of the weather.

Armstrong was buried at Millmerran Cemetery beside her parents, Robyn and Ronnie Armstrong, and her grandmother, Margaret Hughes. Her five-month-old son is being cared for by Ms Isaacs and her husband Michael. In her eulogy, Ms Isaacs said she would ensure he knew how special his mother was.
