According to ABC News, the woman found dead in a Melbourne apartment block has been identified by her family as 21-year-old Jayda Allen Bonner. Homicide detectives are investigating the death after police were called to an apartment on Cardigan Street in Carlton just before 2am on Saturday.

Police said officers found the body of a woman when they arrived at the inner-city apartment. A 60-year-old man was arrested and interviewed nearby after a crime scene was established, but has since been released. No charges have been laid as the investigation continues.

Ms Allen Bonner’s aunt, Kellie Carter-Bell, described her as a “gentle soul” with a “heart of gold”, saying she would do anything to help anybody. Ms Carter-Bell said Jayda was a Yagera woman with family in Queensland.

Ms Carter-Bell said the family had serious concerns for Ms Allen Bonner’s welfare and had recently sought help from police. She said the family had begged for help about six weeks earlier. Victoria Police did not respond to the family’s claim, telling ABC News it could not comment while the investigation was underway.

Forensic detectives were seen removing evidence from the complex on Saturday. Ms Carter-Bell said the family was devastated and wanted the community to see Ms Allen Bonner’s picture so people could understand her story.
