Jessica Hanna, Egyptian Australian filmmaker, has launched a tax-deductible fundraising campaign supported by Documentary Australia Foundation (@DocumentaryAustralia), in order for her to complete her documentary film My First Time Home. It is a sentimental style film that follows three young Australian Egyptians of various religions as they visit Egypt, some for the first time. What starts as a trip to fun Egypt, quickly becomes an unexpected journey of personal revelation and social, political and cultural awakening. “It is a love letter to the region”, said Director/Producer, Jessica Hanna.

The film features work from the charity Coptic Orphans (@Coptic_Orphans), as well as disability and cancer organisations in Egypt.

My First Time Home is a thought-provoking, emotionally resonant experience that needs to be completed with your support.

“This is a special film that has some interesting and unexpected twists” said Director/Producer Jessica. “It focuses on the story of Egyptian youth from various backgrounds and religions. During this time of tension within the Middle East/SWANA region, it is important now more than ever for youth from the region to share their story in their own way.”

Thanks to Documentary Australia Foundation, people can make a tax deductible donation $2 and above to the link below:

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Coptic Orphans (@Coptic_Orphans)

About My First Time Home:

“I am to create a documentary that promotes religious and gender differences tolerance by showcasing the beauty and diversity of different faiths, challenging prejudice, and inspiring viewers to embrace understanding and respect. I aim to empower audiences to appreciate different religious beliefs and practices, fostering a sense of community and empathy across different faith traditions, and different gender roles, inspiring a future where Egyptian and other diaspora communities can live in harmony.

This project is driven by the need to communicate and explore the importance of tolerance and understanding, particularly in the current climate of religious contentions. It does this while providing Australian and international audiences insight into gender issues and the inter-generational impact of migration and forced displacement.”
