According to BBC News, Rafael Jodar is one win away from entering the ATP top 10 after beating Arthur Fils to reach the Canadian Open semi-finals in Montreal. The 19-year-old Spaniard defeated the French player 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and moved to 11th in the live rankings.

Jodar will face Brandon Nakashima in the semi-final. A victory would put him in the top 10 unless Ben Shelton also reaches the final; in that scenario, Jodar would need to beat Shelton as well. Reaching the top 10 in Canada would mean he had moved from the top 100 in 140 days.

Boris Becker holds the current men’s record, taking 210 days to go from the top 100 to the top 10 in 1985 at the age of 18. Carlos Alcaraz took 336 days, Novak Djokovic 623, while Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner each took 735. Roger Federer took 973 days. Jennifer Capriati holds the women’s record at 203 days, set in 1990 when she was 14.

Jodar became a full-time professional at the start of 2026 and entered the top 100 on 30 March after reaching the third round of the Miami Open. He reached the top 50 by 20 April after beating Alex de Minaur in Madrid for his first victory over a top-10 player. He has won one tour title, the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech, and is the first player born in 2006 or later to reach a Masters 1000 semi-final.
