According to ABC News, Adelaide Crows defender Josh Worrell has pleaded guilty to aggravated driving without due care after hitting a pedestrian with his car on July 10, 2026. The 25-year-old appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court and will return on Tuesday for sentencing.
The court heard Worrell was driving on Port Road on his way to training when he ran a red light and collided with the victim. Prosecutor Phoebe Foster-Richardson said footage showed his vehicle entering the pedestrian crossing at a “somewhat considerable speed”, though the prosecution did not allege he exceeded the speed limit.
Ms Foster-Richardson said the red traffic signal had been displayed for several seconds and submitted that Worrell was either inattentive or distracted. A separate charge of failing to stop, assist and present to police was dropped by the prosecution.
Prosecutors sought a recorded conviction and either a short good behaviour bond or community service, while accepting Worrell was remorseful and that imprisonment was not necessary. Magistrate Rodney Oates said a jail term was inappropriate and that it was not his intention to impose one.
Defence barrister Andrew Culshaw said Worrell was embarrassed and remorseful and had made a “human mistake”. He told the court that Worrell helped the victim, took him to hospital and later went to the victim’s house to collect tissues for a cut to his head.
