The only international airport in South Sudan, Juba Airport, was forced to cancel all flights on Saturday, April 29th, due to heavy rain in the area. However, the airport has now resumed operations after the water levels receded. The managing director of the airport, Mr. Kur Kuol, reported that the heavy rain caused some parts of the airport to be flooded, making it difficult for planes to land safely. He also noted that a cargo plane from Palach in the northern part of the country crashed during landing, but thankfully, all 300 passengers on board survived.
Mr. Kur Kuol acknowledged that the situation at the airport was beyond his office’s capacity to handle, and called on the country’s transport and road infrastructure to intervene and repair the airport. He stressed the need for urgent action to ensure the safety and security of passengers and called on the government to prioritize the repairs.
