According to ABC News, a South Australian Supreme Court jury has heard a covert police recording of Raelene Polymiadis, who is standing trial after pleading not guilty to the alleged murders of her parents, Brenda and Lynton Anderson. Prosecutors allege she injected the couple with insulin 14 months apart in 2022 and 2023.

In the recording from 20 June 2023, played in court on Thursday, a female voice was heard while a car was driving and the radio played for about six minutes. The voice then prayed for help to stay calm, stay focused and “show emotion”. Prosecutors had previously said Ms Polymiadis was recorded “speaking in tongues”; the recording included indistinct words and repeated use of the phrase “yada yada yada”.

The jury also heard a voice say, “yes I have sinned, I have sinned twice”, followed by comments that the parents did not want to go to a nursing home. At the end, the recording included paper-rustling sounds and a quieter voice saying, “he got into my stuff, it’s all my fault”. The court had released handwritten notes on Wednesday that prosecutors alleged were found in Ms Polymiadis’s car and house, including a note with similar wording.

Earlier on Thursday, phone intercept recordings alleged to involve Ms Polymiadis and her sister were played after investigators began contacting siblings about the deaths. A separate recorded police interview was also played. Ms Polymiadis told detectives she had done nothing to her parents and said she did not give her father insulin, although he could have accessed it while she stayed at his house. Both parents were aged 94 when they died. The trial is continuing.
