According to Cnbc, Mike Khouw views Tesla’s Cybercab as a potential game changer and has outlined an options strategy for Tesla shares. Khouw, who lives in Northern California, said he has seen Cybercabs driving in Palo Alto, Tesla’s Northern California headquarters area. He contrasted the sleek vehicle with other driverless vehicles that have visible sensors and cameras, while noting the Cybercab is apparently built without a steering wheel or pedals.

Khouw said Tesla shares closed near $376 after rising 5.4% on launch day, still below a 52-week high near $499. He framed the near-term market question as whether a visible rollout of wheel-less vehicles can shift perceptions of Tesla from an electric-vehicle maker with a software story toward a company changing the world. The launch, however, is limited and involves a small unsupervised fleet, he said.

The proposed position is to buy Tesla December 390 calls at $32.50 and sell Oct. 23 weekly 425 calls at $9.50 plus Oct. 23 weekly 330 puts at $7.30, for a net debit of $15.70. Khouw said Tesla’s MACD, DMI and RSI indicators were all bullish, supporting the purchase of a longer-dated call. The sale of the nearer-dated strangle is intended to offset time decay, with the short options collecting $16.80.

If Tesla trades roughly between 330 and 425 through that Friday, the short options could expire while the December call remains at a lower basis, Khouw said. A move toward 390 to 410 is his base case, while a sharp advance through 425 would require a decision on the short call. A decline below 330 would put the short put in play and could require buying the stock at the put strike. Khouw also noted that Waymo already has scale and trip volume Tesla has not matched, and that Cybercab economics depend on utilization and regulatory permission expanding quickly.
