Arabic version: الملك تشارلز الثالث يحتفل بأول زيارة له إلى برمودا مع الاحتفالات
King Charles III is visiting Bermuda on his first trip to a British overseas territory as monarch, following a four-day state visit to the US. The King, who was not accompanied by Queen Camilla, arrived in the territory’s capital of Hamilton on Thursday evening. His first day included a visit to an education hub that focuses on the island’s ecosystem, a boat trip with the coastguard, and a cake-cutting event at an aquarium.
According to BBC News, the King began his visit by inspecting the Royal Bermuda Regiment, where he greeted members of the public who had gathered in the former capital, St George. The event featured a military procession and a 21-gun salute, followed by a performance of Bob Marley’s “Jamming” by a local band.
Attendees of all ages, including a four-year-old boy named Theo dressed in a guardsman outfit, expressed excitement at meeting the King. One young girl, Charlotte, shared her joy after shaking hands with the monarch, saying, “I’m never washing my hand again.”
During his stay, King Charles visited the Living Classroom on Bermuda’s Trunk Island, where he observed a health check on a Bermuda Longtail, also known as a white-tailed tropic bird. He also participated in the aquarium’s 100th anniversary celebration by cutting a cake at the event.
The King’s visit comes after a significant diplomatic trip to the US, where he addressed concerns about the UK-US relationship. His speech to the US Congress was met with a standing ovation, emphasizing the importance of the partnership between the two nations. King Charles’ visit to Bermuda will take place over two days, before he returns to the UK.
