Arabic version: الملك تشارلز الثالث يحيي ذكرى ضحايا 11 سبتمبر خلال زيارته إلى نيويورك
King Charles III and Queen Camilla continued their U.S. tour with a poignant visit to the September 11 Memorial in New York City, where they honored the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks. The royal couple laid a bouquet of flowers at the memorial and met with families of the victims, as well as local leaders, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
According to ABC News, the couple’s visit is part of a four-day state tour of the United States, which also included meetings with President Donald Trump and a speech to a joint session of Congress. The streets surrounding the memorial were barricaded, with the U.S. Secret Service scanning for weapons at limited access points, ensuring a safe environment for the royal visit.
During the memorial visit, the king wrote a heartfelt note attached to the flowers, stating, “We honour the memory of all those who so tragically lost their lives on 11th September 2001, and stand in enduring solidarity with the American people in the face of such profound loss. Charles R Camilla R.” This visit marks a significant moment as the couple paid tribute to the nearly 2,800 lives lost in the attacks.
Following their memorial visit, King Charles is scheduled to visit a community organization in Harlem focused on sustainable urban farming, while Queen Camilla will celebrate the 100th birthday of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh at a literary event in New York. Their trip coincides with the 250th anniversary of America’s declaration of independence from British rule, highlighting the historical ties between the two nations.
