Kira Puru, known for their hit songs like “Molotov” and “Everything Is Better Without You,” has made a surprising transition from music to acting. According to ABC News, Puru’s latest roles include a part in the dark comedy series “Deadloch” and a character named Kat in the new satire “Bad Company.”

After a year-long hiatus from music following the release of their single “All My Boyfriends” in 2023, Puru took a break from performing live to explore other creative avenues, including photography and graphic design. This year marks their return to the public eye, albeit in a new capacity as an actress alongside prominent Australian stars.

In “Bad Company,” Puru portrays Kat, who serves as the first point of call at a theatre on the brink of collapse after years of being run into the ground by its nepotistic, spendthrift artistic director Margie. The show features a comedic take on the challenges faced by the arts industry, particularly under the management of a new chief executive aiming to save the financially troubled institution. Puru’s performance has been noted for its understated humor, showcasing their talent in a role that is only their second acting gig.

Puru’s shift to acting was somewhat unexpected, as they had previously focused on their music career, which included a number-one hit and collaborations with notable artists. However, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent challenges in the music industry prompted Puru to explore acting, which they describe as a natural extension of their performance background. Despite their nerves during auditions, they embraced the opportunity, leading to their current roles.

While Puru is enjoying their new acting endeavors, they have hinted at the possibility of returning to music soon. They have been working on new projects and are eager to share their music when the time feels right. For now, Puru is focused on enjoying the creative process and making art that brings them joy.
