According to Cnbc, South Korean stocks rallied on Thursday, lifting the benchmark Kospi into a technical bull market as a global revival in artificial-intelligence trading supported a sharp recovery from last month’s historic sell-off. The Kospi rose more than 4% in early trading, bringing its gain from its July 30 low to about 23%, according to LSEG data.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two index heavyweights, led the move. Samsung rose more than 4%, while SK Hynix gained more than 7%. Investor demand for technology hardware stocks has returned as recent earnings from global technology companies indicated continued heavy spending on artificial intelligence.

David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation, said in a note late Tuesday that “The AI spending boom is far from over,” citing strong results from U.S. AI-related companies. Supermicro and cloud provider CoreWeave climbed overnight following better-than-expected results. The developments boosted Korean chipmakers, whose performance is closely linked to demand for memory chips used in AI infrastructure.

Fundstrat Global Advisors said the South Korean rally may have further to run as memory-chip makers regain strength. Mark Newton, the firm’s head of technical strategy, said the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF had moved above a key technical level following gains in Samsung and SK Hynix. He said the move confirmed a reversal pattern that “looks attractive technically for further near-term gains.”

Fundstrat also said memory shares, among the hardest hit during the recent technology sell-off, are beginning to outperform the broader technology sector for the first time since June. Newton said the group appears to be one of the last major parts of technology to turn higher, while warning that the rally could lose momentum later this month if U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar rise again.
