NSW Shadow Minister for Police Walt Secord has called on NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Police Minister Paul Toole to explain why they overlooked police in his so-called COVID appreciation bonus.

Mr Perrottet announced yesterday every frontline health care worker would receive a covid bonus payment to thank them for their COVID service – but he ignored hard-working police officers.

Walt Secord, NSW Shadow Minister for Police said:

“The NSW Police were everywhere during the COVID pandemic.

“NSW Police enforced the endless public health orders; took control after the Ruby Princess fiasco; managed the quarantine hotels, oversaw the lockdown orders and border controls – and then stepped in to manage the floods on the North Coast.”

Sophie Cotsis, NSW Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations said:

“While this announcement acknowledges the significant efforts of health staff during the pandemic, the government appears to be pitting one group of workers against another.

“The Government must answer why it has not extended the same praise and reward to other important essential workers who have kept the community going through this pandemic.”
