The Carroll Labor Government has been warned against ramming through four-year appointments for the newly created Multicultural Coordinator General and Deputy roles for Multicultural and Multifaith Victoria just days before the caretaker period begins.

The Multicultural Coordinator-General position was advertised prior to Legislation hitting the Parliament with a salary between $344,616 and $400,741; while the two part-time Deputy Coordinator-General roles were advertised for an astounding $268,488.

Shadow Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Affairs, Evan Mulholland MP, has accused the Labor government of politicising the body by appointing these highly important positions five seconds to midnight before an election.

“There are only 18 days until caretaker mode starts on Melbourne Cup Day, and Labor are trying to rig the odds in their favour at the expense of multicultural Victorians.

“Victorian multicultural communities deserve to have absolute confidence that public appointments and public funding are not being used as political currency,” Mr. Mulholland said.

“They deserve a system where leaders are appointed based on their expertise, their genuine contribution, and their capacity to represent communities, not because of their political allegiances or friendships with Ministers.”

“Ben Carroll is arrogantly jeopardising the future of Multicultural and Multifaith Victoria by trying to ram through 4-year appointments on the way out the door.”

“I consult widely with multicultural and multifaith Victorians, and they have had enough of this government using them for rank partisan reasons.”
