Arabic version: لامين يامال يظهر دعمه لفلسطين خلال احتفال الدوري الإسباني
Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal has received widespread acclaim for showing solidarity with Palestine during the La Liga title celebrations in Barcelona on May 11. The 18-year-old was seen waving a Palestinian flag from an open-top bus, eliciting cheers from the enthusiastic crowds gathered to celebrate the team’s victory.
According to Al Jazeera, tens of thousands of fans lined the streets of Barcelona to greet their team after FC Barcelona secured their 29th La Liga title with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid. This victory marked a significant moment, as it was the second time the league title was determined by the result of an El Clasico match.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Barcelona has served as a major hub for pro-Palestinian activism in Spain. The city has witnessed numerous pro-Palestine protests and has served as a launching point for aid flotillas aimed at breaking the blockade of the affected territory.
The celebration not only highlighted the team’s sporting achievement but also reflected the city’s ongoing commitment to social causes, as demonstrated by the passionate display of support for Palestine during the festivities.
