“Land of Angels” Selected as Iran’s Entry for the 2027 Oscars

According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international film journalist, the feature film “Land of Angels” which portrays a human perspective on the war and crisis in Gaza, has been selected to represent Iranian cinema at the 2027 Oscars.

The feature film “Land of Angels” directed by Babak Khajehpasha and produced by Manouchehr Mohammadi, has been selected to represent Iranian cinema at the 99th Academy Awards.

Iraj Tahmasb (actor and screenwriter), Farhad Tohidi (scriptwriter), Mahmoud Kalari (cinematographer of the “A Separation” won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012), Seyed Alireza Hosseini (film director and producer), and Mohammad Reza Tashakori (Secretary of the Committee and Deputy International and International Distributor, Farabi Cinema Foundation) were among the members of the committee responsible for selecting Iran’s cinematic representative to attend the 2027 Oscars.

Land of Angels is a 2026 Iranian drama film starring Syrian actress Sulaf Fawakherji. It focuses on the lives and dreams of children in Gaza amidst the backdrop of war.

“Land of Angels” was one of the most awarded films at the 44th Fajr Film Festival, securing five Crystal Simorghs, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects, along with eight Honorary Diplomas.

Child actors of Arab, Iranian, Syrian, and Lebanese backgrounds, including Ali Dib, Fatemeh Masoumeh Zariq, Ahoora Lotfi, Mohammad Asad, Zahra Fazel, Fatemeh Marish, and Alireza Alou, have acted in this film.
