The Australian Lebanese Cultural Union (ALCU) marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant and inspiring dinner on Thursday, 5 March 2026, bringing together nearly 200 guests from across the Lebanese-Australian community for an evening celebrating women’s achievements, leadership, and community impact. The event was held at Sophra by Charbel Chaaya in Georges Hall and highlighted the important contributions of Lebanese and Lebanese-Australian women across professional, civic, and community life.

The evening featured a distinguished panel discussion led by four accomplished women representing diverse fields of leadership and expertise. The panel speakers included H.E. Mirna Khawli, Lebanese Ambassador; Prof. Hadia Haikal Mokhtar – Associate Professor, Medical Doctor and Lawyer; Clr Rachelle Harika – Deputy Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown; and Dr. Alexandra Constantin – Consultant Anaesthetist.

Guiding the conversation was Christine Tadros, reporter and journalist at Oz Arab Media, who served as moderator for the panel. Through thoughtful discussion and personal reflections, the speakers shared insights into their professional journeys, the challenges they have overcome, and the importance of empowering women to take on leadership roles within both the Lebanese diaspora and the wider Australian society.

The event was also attended by the Lebanese Consul to Sydney, Dr. Sara Dirani, along with community leaders, professionals, and representatives from a wide range of Lebanese organisations. In addition, there was strong representation from most major Lebanese political parties, reflecting the broad community support for recognising and celebrating women’s achievements.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a warm and engaging atmosphere that encouraged conversation, connection, and reflection. The dinner not only honoured the accomplishments of women within the community but also reinforced the importance of creating platforms where their voices and experiences can inspire the next generation.

As International Women’s Day continues to serve as a global moment of recognition and reflection, the ALCU International Women’s Day Dinner once again demonstrated the strength, resilience, and leadership of Lebanese women and Lebanese-Australian women who continue to shape their communities in meaningful ways.
